Question 1

If God is good, why is there evil?

Accepted Answer

God gave us free will. Without the choice to do wrong, there is no love, no courage, no justice. A world of programmed robots has no morality at all. This life is a test, not the final verdict. Every wrong is recorded and will be judged. Without the afterlife, suffering has no meaning. With it, no injustice is ever lost. And most evil is man made. Famine comes from war and hoarding. Poverty comes from injustice. Blaming God for our own choices is dishonest.

Question 2

If God is loving and merciful, why is there suffering?

Accepted Answer

Suffering is not always punishment. The Quran says we are tested through both ease and hardship. Growth needs challenge. A pain free life makes shallow people, not better ones. Natural laws have to be stable for the world to work at all. If fire stopped burning just to protect you, you could never trust anything. A world with no consequences has no science, no trust, no learning. The real question is this: is there justice for pain that never gets resolved in this life? Islam says yes. The afterlife completes justice. No suffering is wasted.

Question 3

Do Muslims worship a different God?

Accepted Answer

No. Allah is just the Arabic word for God. Arab Christians and Jews use the same word in their prayers and their scriptures. It is the God of Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The disagreement is not about which God, but what He is. Islam rejects the Trinity and incarnation as later additions and goes back to the pure monotheism of all the prophets.

Question 4

Does Islam demand blind faith?

Accepted Answer

No. The Quran tells us not to follow what we have no knowledge of, and it challenges people to test it for contradiction. Faith in Islam is trust built on evidence, not switching off your brain. The Quran points to nature, history and conscience. A faith that is afraid of questions is not Islam.

Question 5

Why are there bad Muslims if Islam is true?

Accepted Answer

A teaching and its followers are two different things. If a doctor smokes, you do not blame medicine. The Quran condemns those who say what they do not do. Judge Islam by its text and its messenger, not by a poll of its worst followers. Every group has hypocrites. That proves human failure, not false principles.

Question 6

Did Prophet Muhammad ﷺ marry a child?

Accepted Answer

No. The popular report that Aisha was 6 at marriage and 9 at consummation does not hold up against the historical evidence. Multiple independent facts point to her being a young woman in her late teens. First, Aisha was already engaged to Jubayr ibn Mut'im before the Prophet proposed. His family broke the engagement because they feared she would bring their son into Islam. A 6 year old does not threaten a grown man's faith. This only makes sense if she was a young woman of marriageable age. Second, her elder sister Asma was 10 years older than Aisha. Asma was born 27 years before the Hijrah, so Aisha was 17 at the time of the Hijrah. The marriage took place after the Hijrah, making Aisha at least 17 to 19. Third, Aisha served as a nurse at the Battle of Uhud, carrying water to the wounded. If she had been 9 at marriage, she would have been 10 or 11 at Uhud. A child does not work as a battlefield nurse. At 17 to 19 she would have been 19 to 21 at Uhud, which fits perfectly. Fourth, the 6 and 9 report comes through a single narrator, Hisham ibn Urwah, whose memory was criticised by scholars in his later years when he moved to Iraq. No one in Madinah reported these ages from him.

Question 7

Was Muhammad ﷺ a warlord?

Accepted Answer

No. For 13 years in Makkah he endured torture, boycott and persecution without fighting back. War came only after expulsion and ongoing attacks against his community. He dug trenches to avoid battle, negotiated truces, granted amnesties, and forgave the entire city that had driven him out. A warlord does not do these things. Reconciliation grew his community far more than combat ever did.

Question 8

Did Muhammad ﷺ hate Jewish people?

Accepted Answer

No. His conflicts were about broken treaties, not race. The constitution of Madinah included Jewish tribes as part of the community. The Quran permits their food and marriage with them. He stood up in respect for a Jewish funeral, saying: Was it not a soul? Wartime disputes with specific tribes who broke treaties do not equal hatred of a people.

Question 9

Did Muhammad ﷺ write the Quran himself?

Accepted Answer

The Quran corrects him at times and sometimes withholds answers while he waits. A man writing his own book does not correct himself. He was unlettered, with no school of scripture behind him. The text stunned the finest Arab poets of his time. Thirteen years of persecution is a very high price for a man making up a book to gain power.

Question 10

Did the Quran copy the Bible?

Accepted Answer

It shares prophets because it claims the same God sent them all. But it also corrects the Bible at key points and adds details not found in it. Similarity does not prove copying. The Quran says it confirms what came before and corrects what was changed. That is not copying, it is correction.

Question 11

Has the Quran been changed?

Accepted Answer

No. It was memorised by thousands of people, written down during the Prophet's lifetime, and standardised within 20 years of his death. No ruler could quietly rewrite what millions knew by heart. The Birmingham manuscript, carbon dated to the Prophet's lifetime, matches the text read today word for word. Any variations are in pronunciation, not in meaning.

Question 12

Does the Quran say to kill unbelievers wherever they are?

Accepted Answer

No. That verse is about a specific war with a specific enemy who had broken treaties. The very next verse exempts anyone who kept their treaty and commands safe passage for anyone seeking asylum. Ripping a battlefield verse from its context is like reading a wartime act as a permanent licence to shoot civilians. It is either ignorance or dishonesty.

Question 13

Does Quran 4:34 permit wife beating?

Accepted Answer

No. The Prophet never struck any of his wives. He said the best among you are those who are best to their wives, and he was the best to his own family. The verse lays out a strict sequence: first verbal counsel, then separation in bed, and only then a disputed word that classical scholars understood as a light, non injurious gesture. The verse ends with a reminder that God is watching. Any form of abuse or injury violates the Quran's command to treat spouses with kindness.

Question 14

Are Muslim women considered inferior?

Accepted Answer

No. The Quran gives women and men equal spiritual worth, the right to own property, to inherit, to keep their own income, and to consent to marriage. These rights reached Europe centuries later. Culture and religion often get confused. Abuse and denial of education are cultural failures, not Islamic teachings. Different roles in family life do not mean lesser worth.

Question 15

Why do some Muslim women wear hijab?

Accepted Answer

It is about modesty for both men and women. The Quran addresses men's gaze before it addresses women's dress. It is an act of obedience to God, not oppression. A woman should not be forced to cover, and she should not be forced to uncover. Forcing her to undress is not liberation.

Question 16

Does Islam allow forced marriage?

Accepted Answer

No. Consent is required. The Prophet gave women the power to annul marriages that were forced on them. Force and threats are not consent. A marriage without consent is void in Islamic law.

Question 17

Why does a woman sometimes inherit half a man's share?

Accepted Answer

Only in some cases. In others she inherits equally, more, or the man gets nothing. The man's larger share comes with a larger burden. He is legally required to maintain the family. Her share is hers alone, to keep or spend as she wishes. The formula reflects financial duty, not human worth.

Question 18

Why does Islam permit polygyny?

Accepted Answer

It limited an existing practice to four, tied it to justice, and said if you cannot be fair, marry only one. The default is one wife. The context was war widows and orphans who had no support. It is a restricted permission for a specific need, not a command or a sign of piety.

Question 19

Was Islam spread by the sword?

Accepted Answer

No. The Quran forbids forced conversion: there is no compulsion in religion. Indonesia has 230 million Muslims and no invading army ever reached it. It came through trade. Christian and Jewish communities survived centuries under Muslim rule. Forced conversion would have emptied them. Empires fought wars, as all empires did, but faith was not forced.

Question 20

Does Islam permit terrorism or killing civilians?

Accepted Answer

No. Islamic law strictly distinguishes combatants from civilians. The Quran says killing one innocent person is like killing all of humanity. The Prophet forbade harming women, children, the elderly, monks, and even trees in war. A crime by a Muslim is not made Islamic by using religious language. The law judges the action, not the other way around.

Question 21

Does jihad mean holy war?

Accepted Answer

No. Jihad means striving. It includes moral struggle, speaking truth, seeking knowledge, and serving others. Armed defence is one form under strict conditions. The Prophet said the greatest jihad is the struggle against your own ego. Not every war is jihad, and no anger becomes sacred by using the word.

Question 22

Does Islam kill people who leave the religion?

Accepted Answer

The Quran mentions people believing and disbelieving repeatedly, and leaves their judgement to God. No private person can punish anyone for their faith. The historical punishment for apostasy was tied to political treason, not personal belief. Scholars today debate its application. The principle of no compulsion in religion works both ways.

Question 23

Are honour killings Islamic?

Accepted Answer

No. Honour killing is murder, full stop. Family shame does not override the sanctity of life. It comes from tribal culture and control, not from the Quran. The Quran says no soul bears the burden of another. Private individuals cannot be judge and executioner.

Question 24

Does Islam reject Jesus and Mary?

Accepted Answer

No. Islam honours Jesus as the Messiah, born of the Virgin Mary, who performed miracles by God's permission. Mary has her own chapter in the Quran, and is mentioned more times there than in the entire New Testament. The disagreement is about divinity, not honour. Muslims love Jesus and follow his practice: he prayed to God alone and affirmed that God is one.

Question 25

What does Islam teach about people of other faiths?

Accepted Answer

The Quran commands justice and kindness toward those who do not fight you. Jews and Christians are called People of the Book and their food is permitted. Respect does not mean pretending all beliefs are the same. Islam offers honest disagreement with genuine decency.

Question 26

What is jizya, and is it punishment for being non Muslim?

Accepted Answer

No. It was a civic tax on non Muslim men in exchange for protection and exemption from military service. Women, children, monks and the poor were exempt. A citizen who does not serve in the army pays a tax instead. Calling it punishment is a modern slogan, not history.

Question 27

Is Sharia a single harsh criminal code?

Accepted Answer

No. Sharia means a path to water. It covers worship, charity, family, ethics, commerce and law. Criminal penalties are a tiny fraction of it. Reducing a whole legal tradition to chopping hands is like reducing English law to the death penalty. It tells you more about the speaker than about the law.

Question 28

Why did Islam not abolish slavery immediately?

Accepted Answer

Slavery was embedded in every economy on earth. Islam closed the routes in, opened the routes out, and made freeing a slave an act of worship that expiates sins. Muslims later betrayed these principles. But the Quran moves steadily toward freedom, and slavery has no place in the modern Muslim world.

Question 29

Does Islam promise men seventy two virgins?

Accepted Answer

The number 72 is not in the Quran. It appears in a weak hadith. Paradise in the Quran is described as peace, nearness to God, and joy for all believers, men and women alike. Reducing Paradise to male appetite says more about the critic than about the text. Women are full believers promised their own joy.

Question 30

Do Muslims worship the Kaaba or the Black Stone?

Accepted Answer

No. The Kaaba is a prayer direction, not God. Muslims face it to unite in worship, not to worship it. Umar, the second caliph, said of the Black Stone: You are only a stone. I kiss you only because I saw the Prophet kiss you. The compass is not the destination.

Question 31

Why are pork and alcohol forbidden?

Accepted Answer

Pork is a dietary boundary, like many religions have. Alcohol is banned because intoxication destroys judgement, families and lives. The social cost of alcohol is measurable in every country on earth. Islam named the harm 1,400 years before the statistics existed.

Question 32

Why are Muslims divided into Sunni and Shia?

Accepted Answer

The split began over political leadership after the Prophet's death. Both groups affirm the same Quran, the same prayer, the same fasting, and the core of Islam. Disagreement does not justify hatred. Both pray to the same God, facing the same direction, reading the same Book.
