Van Klaveren had invested public credibility in opposing Islam. Research was meant to strengthen the case. Instead, objections fell one by one, especially around God’s unity and revelation. Conversion therefore cost more than privacy: it required admitting that the identity he had built was wrong. The book became the record of a man defeated by his own investigation.
