Samuel’s task was linguistic: make an English translation clear. Repeated reading made dismissal impossible. Jesus appeared not as an enemy of Islam but as a mighty messenger; Mary was honoured; mercy spoke on every page. At a neighbourhood mosque, a hesitant knock was answered with an embrace. The text and the people converged into a truth he could no longer keep at editorial distance.
