T. B. Irving was a Canadian academic who spent his career studying Arabic, Spanish Islam and the literature of Muslim Spain. He accepted Islam in the 1950s and devoted himself to making Islamic texts accessible to English-speaking North Americans. His 1985 translation, The Qur’an: First American Version, was the first complete English Qur’an by a North American Muslim.
