The full story

Winter did not encounter Islam as an escape from thought, but as thought restored to worship. Its metaphysics, law and spiritual psychology belonged together. He entered the tradition, learned its languages and later built a college where inherited scholarship could address modern Britain without surrendering either rigour or soul.
